Longton, Staffordshire born full back Jack Stanley began his senior football career with First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers, making his Football League debut against Stoke in September 1905. After 22 appearances for Wolves in his debut season, he was signed by Bolton Wanderers in the last week of April 1906, making his debut for Bolton in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Burnden Park on 28th April. He played more than half of Bolton’s games during the next two seasons, however after Bolton’s relegation in 1908 he became a fringe player, making only 8 appearances as Bolton won the Second Division Championship in 1908-09, and playing only a further 8 games back in the top flight in 1909-10, before he joined Crewe Alexandra in the summer of 1910 after 71 appearances for The Trotters.
