Portobello, Staffordshire born centre half Harry Skitt began his career at Darlaston in 1921 before joining First Division Tottenham Hotspur’s nursery club Northfleet in 1923. He joined Tottenham in 1924 and made his Football League debut that November against Aston Villa, soon establishing himself as a stalwart of the team throughout the rest of the 1920’s. He played a total of 229 matches in all competitions for the White Hart Lane club without ever scoring.
In 1931 Skitt moved to Chester ahead of their debut season in The Football League along with fellow Spurs players Baden Herod and Andy Thompson, playing in their inaugural League fixture that August against Wigan Borough, a 4-0 victory that would be later expunged due to Wigan’s demise when they resigned from the League in October. He went on to make a further 110 appearances over the next four seasons before ending his career at non league Congleton Town in 1936.
