Fulham, London born centre half Geoffrey or (middle name) Leonard Shelley began his football career with local Southern League club Fulham in 1904, spending two years with them but never made a first team appearance for The Cottagers. He joined non league Tunbridge Wells Rangers in 1906, before returning to London in 1907 to join Second Division Clapton Orient, making his Football League debut against Hull City that September. He made 7 first team appearances during his first season at Orient, but only featured twice in 1908-09, both matches coming in January 1909, before re-joining Tunbridge Wells Rangers later the same year. He moved on to join Homerton later the same year before returning to Clapton Orient for the 1910-11 season, however he made no further first team appearances.
