Sunderland born full back Fred Robson started his football career with Ryhope Villa in 1912 before joining Southern League Southend United in 1913, playing for The Shrimpers before the First World War before joining Swansea Town after the end of the conflict in July 1919. He made his Football League debut in Swansea’s inaugural League fixture at Portsmouth in August 1920, making 85 appearances over the next 2 seasons at The Vetch Field before returning to the North East and joining non league Easington Colliery Welfare in 1922. He returned to Football League action with Durham City in September 1923, scoring 5 goals in 82 appearances, 4 of which were penalties, in a 2 season spell in Durham before a move to Hartlepools United in May 1925. He played 15 times for ‘Pools before returning to Durham City in 1926, however he failed to get into their first team and retired from professional football in 1927.
