Belfast born outside left James Robinson was signed by First Division club Manchester United from Belfast junior football and is first recorded playing wartime league football for The Red Devils in October 1916. After the War he made his Football League debut against Chelsea in January 1920, one of a pair of appearances he made during United’s first post-war season. He was utilised more over the subsequent two seasons, and by the time he signed for Third Division (North) club Tranmere Rovers in the 1922 close season he had scored 3 goals in 21 appearances for Manchester United.
