Falkirk, Stirlingshire born left half Bill Robertson began his football career with Glasgow Perthshire in 1910 from where he joined Southern League Portsmouth in January 1914, where his career was interrupted by the onset of the First World War, and returned to Fratton Park for their Southern League Championship winning season of 1919-20. When Portsmouth joined the Third Division (South) in 1920 Robertson was still at the club but he didn’t make a League appearance before joining non league Lancaster Town in 1921.
From there he was signed by Third Division (North) club Barrow in June 1922, making his Football League debut against Crewe Alexandra that October, and scoring once, in a 4-1 win over Rochdale in January 1923, in 44 appearances over two seasons for The Bluebirds before returning to Lancaster Town in 1924. He later joined Ulverston Town before his retirement.
