Johannesburg, South Africa born centre half John Richardson played for Stirlingshire junior teams Wallacestone Wesleyans in 1928 and Wallacestone Welfare in 1929 before joining Third Division (South) Bristol Rovers in the summer of 1930, making his Football League debut against Northampton Town in August the same year, making 8 appearances for The Gas, of which only the last one, against Queen’s Park Rangers in January 1931, resulted in a win, before returning to Stirlingshire to join Scottish League Falkirk that May.
He was Falkirk’s regular centre half for 3 seasons until 1934, before having two seasons with Alloa Athletic, joining Leith Athletic in 1936 and finishing his career with East Stirlingshire, whom he joined in 1938.
