Description
Alva, Clackmannanshire born full back Bobby Rennie had been a junior at Clydebank from where he was signed by Dundee. He got his chance in the first team when Lew Morgan moved to Portsmouth early in 1935, Rennie making his Scottish League debut in a win at St Johnstone that February, and he soon became their regular full back. “Of stocky build… a strong defender with a fine clearance kick” it was said of him at the time.
He scored twice, both goals early in the 1936-37 campaign, in 131 appearances for The Dark Blues through to the abandonment of peacetime football immediately after the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, which effectively ended his football career. His final appearance came the day before war’s outbreak. He did play in 24 wartime matches for Dundee in the remainder of 1939-40 as well as a further 10 wartime fixtures for The Dark Blues in their 1944-45 campaign before his eventual retirement.
