Description

Armadale, Lothian born outside right John Polland played junior football for Longriggend Rob Roy before signing for Aberdeen in September 1928, making his Scottish League debut against Raith Rovers the same month in a game that proved to be his only appearance for The Dons. He moved on to Armadale in July 1929 and with his brother Joe was part of Armadale’s line up that played a Scottish Cup tie against Glasgow Rangers in January 1931.

He was then signed by First Division club Hibernian in June 1932, going straight into their first team at the start of the new season that August. But he lost his place at the start of November and played only three further matches for Hibs in March 1933 including a Scottish Cup tie draw and replay defeat to Edinburgh rivals Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle before leaving Easter Road to join East Stirlingshire after 3 goals in 17 appearances for Hibs in August 1933. The Shire proved his final professional club before his eventual retirement from the game.
