Oxford born inside right Alan Phillips attended Oxford University where he was a blue in 1920 and as an amateur he played for Oxford City in 1922, Sheringham in 1923 and The Corinthians from 1922. He played in The Corinthians’ January 1924 1-0 FA Cup giant killing victory over First Division Blackburn Rovers. He also played 4 times during 1923-24 for Norwich City, making his Football League debut against Charlton Athletic in August 1923 in a 2-2 draw, without scoring, but scoring in each of his other 3 outings for The Canaries, all home matches in February and March 1924. He later played for Holt United in Norfolk, and continued to play for The Corinthians.
