East Rainton, County Durham born goalkeeper George Patchett started playing football with junior clubs Croxdale Villa and Shildon Athletic prior to the First World War and after the War joined Durham City in January 1919, being in their goal for their inaugural Football League fixture at Southport in August 1921. He made 65 appearances for Durham City during their first two League campaigns, before returning to Shildon in 1923 and subsequently playing for Aveling & Porters in 1924.
