Douglas Water, Lanarkshire born winger John Park began his football career with junior club Douglas Water Thistle in 1930 and after a trial with Partick Thistle in 1931, he joined Hamilton Academical in 1933, having a spell on loan at Nithisdale Wanderers later the same year. In the 1936 close season he joined Second Division Newcastle United making his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue the same September, scoring twice in 9 appearances in his debut season. He broke into Newcastle’s team on a regular basis during 1937-38, scoring 9 goals in 37 appearances, but fell out of favour in early September 1938, making only 15 more appearances in the final season before World War Two, which effectively ended his career after 12 goals in 61 appearances for The Toon.
