Bordesley Green, Birmingham born right half Billy Ollis began his football career with Newall Juniors and played for Southfield in 1887 and Warwick County in 1890. He was at Small Heath (now Birmingham City) ahead of their first season in The Football League, making his debut in their inaugural League match against Burslem Port Vale in September 1892. Ollis was an ever present the following season when Small Heath won promotion to the First Division in 1894, finishing runners up in the Second Division, and missed only one match in their first two seasons in the top flight. However after their relegation in 1896, Ollis joined Hereford Thistle, his last recorded club, after 2 goals in 105 matches for Small Heath.
