Blantyre, Lanarkshire born inside forward Willie O’Hare began his football career with junior club Dalkeith Thistle in 1926 before joining Dundee in 1927. He had a brief loan spell at St Mirren in 1930 but his progress at Dens Park was enough for First Division Portsmouth to sign him in June of 1931 for a fee of around £1000. He made his Football League debut at Leicester City in February 1932 in a match which proved to be his only appearance for Pompey, before he returned to Scotland joining Brechin City later that year.
