Kingseat, Fife born right back Peter Nellies began his football career with Douglas Water Thistle from where he joined Heart of Midlothian, for whom he made his debut in a friendly against Middlesbrough at Tynecastle in April 1908, his Scottish League debut coming in a 6-3 defeat at Queen’s Park four days later. He had a long career with Hearts and played both sides of the First World War for Hearts, making his final appearance for The Jambos in April 1921 before joining King’s Park (now Stirling Albion) after 12 goals in 362 Scottish League and Cup appearances.
After a single season at King’s Park, where he made 17 appearances, he became player-manager of Berwick Rangers, holding that position during 1922-23 before a move to England to join North Eastern League club Carlisle United where he played a single season before his retirement in 1924.
He was twice capped by Scotland, making his international debut in a 2-1 win over Ireland at Dalymount Park, Dublin in March 1913, his second and final cap coming in a 0-0 draw with Wales at Parkhead in February 1914 when he captained his country, additionally he played for Scotland in a wartime international in 1918. He also made 9 appearances for The Scottish League between October 1911 and February 1919, scoring once in a 1-1 draw with The Southern League at Millwall in October 1914, as well as 4 wartime Scottish League appearances between 1915 and 1917.
