James McDonald first played for Queen’s Park as a winger in a Scottish Cup 2nd round replay at home to Aberdeen in February 1922, in a match The Spiders lost 2-1, however he he played perhaps half of his games in the half back line at right half, and the rest across the forward line, as a winger, an inside or a centre forward. His Hampden Park career spanned most of the 1920’s and he played his last game in a Scottish League First Division match at Leith Athletic in September 1930. In total he scored 34 goals in 242 Scottish League and Scottish Cup appearances for Queen’s Park and played in their losing Scottish Cup semi final in March 1928 when Celtic beat them 2-1. He represented Scotland 4 times at amateur level between 1926 and 1931.
