Coppull, Lancashire born winger Arthur Masters began his football career with Horwich RMI in 1931 from where he joined Second Division Nottingham Forest, making his Football League debut against Lincoln City in April 1933. His first goal arrived a week later in a 4-3 defeat at West Ham United. He was a first team regular until 1936, when he fell out of favour making only 5 appearances during 1936-37, before joining Port Vale in the 1937 close season after 26 goals in 118 appearances for Forest. He played 2 full seasons at Vale, but his career was effectively ended by the advent of the Second World War in 1939, having scored 15 goals in 72 appearances.
