Dumfries born winger Tom MacIntyre started his senior football career after the First World War with North Eastern League club Carlisle United in 1919, joining Division Three (South) Exeter City in the summer of 1920 for their inaugural season in the Football League and making his debut against Norwich City that September. He made only 5 appearances for The Grecians before joining Crewe Alexandra in June 1921, for whom he scored 5 goals in 23 appearances during 1921-22. He then joined Wigan Borough in June 1922, scoring twice in 7 appearances for them, before a move to Chesterfield in June 1922, where he made only 4 appearances in 1922-23 before finishing his professional football career.
