Newtongrange, Midlothian born outside left John Low began his football career with Denbeath Star in 1917 from where he joined Heart of Midlothian, making his Scottish League debut in a win over Dumbarton in May 1919. He scored 4 goals in 15 appearances for The Jambos before leaving Tynecastle to join Dunfermline Athletic in 1920, before a move to Ayr United in 1921.
His first venture outside of Scottish football came with a brief spell at Mid Rhondda United in 1922, but he soon returned to Ayr United the same year, before joining Manchester United in 1923, spending 1923-24 at Old Trafford without making a breakthrough into the first team.
He then returned to Dunfermline Athletic in 1924 before signing for Third Division (North) club Halifax Town in March 1926, making his Football League debut against Tranmere Rovers at the beginning of April. He scored in his third match for The Shaymen in a 2-0 win over Wigan Borough but left the club at the end of the season having made 5 appearances. His career thereafter is uncertain.
