West Bromwich born centre forward Billy Lee played junior football for West Bromwich Baptists in 1898, West Bromwich Standard in 1899 and Bournville Athletic in 1900 from where he joined Second Division West Bromwich Albion in the 1901 close season, making his Football League debut at Chesterfield Town in September 1901. He scored 14 goals in his debut season as West Brom won the Second Division Championship, but found goals harder to score in the First Division, and he briefly joined Bournemouth Wanderers in 1904 after 25 goals in 76 appearances for The Baggies.
Later in 1904 he joined Southern League Portsmouth, staying two seasons at Fratton Park before moving to New Brompton in 1906. A single season at Priestfield followed before a move to Second Division Chesterfield Town in 1907, where he scored 6 goals in 28 appearances in 1907-08 before finishing his career with non league Darlaston who he joined in 1908.
