Description

Glasgow born left back Tommy Law played Scottish junior football for Claremont in 1923 and Bridgeton Waverley in 1924, before he signed for Second Division Chelsea in 1925, making his Football League debut at Bradford City in September 1926, and immediately establishing himself as a first team regular, being a near ever present in his first four seasons at Stamford Bridge. He soon came to the attention of the Scottish selectors, and won his first cap for Scotland in the famous Wembley Wizards 5-1 thrashing of England in March 1928, winning one further cap as The Scots lost 5-2 to England in 1930.

He was a Chelsea regular for over a decade and won promotion to the First Division with them in 1930 when they finished Second Division runners up, and two seasons later he was part of Chelsea’s losing FA Cup semi final team when Chelsea were beaten by eventual winners Newcastle United at Leeds Road, Huddersfield. He was a fixture in the team as Chelsea signed several notable stars of the day such as Hughie Gallacher, Alex Jackson and Alec Cheyne. After losing his regular starting berth in April 1936, he played his last games for Chelsea in February 1938 in a career which saw him score 19 goals, 16 of which were penalties in 319 games for The Pensioners.
