Description
Described as a “big fellow”, right half John Laurie joined First Division club Dundee in 1936, making his Scottish League debut in a win at Celtic in February 1937. A regular between his debut and the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, he scored 7 goals in 57 appearances for The Dark Blues, but he soon enlisted in the Army where he gave “distinguished service” and rose to the rank of Major. During the War he played for Glasgow Rangers and at some stage moved to Queen of the South, serving the Dumfries club for several seasons immediately after the resumption of peacetime football.
