Description
Standish born full back John Kershaw played local football after World War One before joining Lancashire Combination Wigan United in November 1920, which became Wigan Borough a month later and joined the Football League the following summer, with Kershaw making his Football League debut at Halifax Town in October 1921. He made 21 appearances in his first season but although he scored the only goal against Grimsby Town in September 1922, he only made 6 appearances in 1922-23 and 16 the following season. He joined non league Chorley in 1924 but returned to Wigan that December, making his final appearance of 44 at Hartlepools United on Christmas Day 1924 before joining non league Runcorn in 1926. He also subsequently played for Hurst and Congleton Town.
