Description

Glasgow born inside forward Robert Kennedy played junior football for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in 1923, Petershill in 1924 and Shettleston in 1925 before joining Falkirk in 1926. He made his Scottish League debut on 23rd October 1926 at home to Dundee, scoring twice. He spent 2 seasons at Brockville Park during which time he went on loan to Raith Rovers in 1927. In the 1928 close season he went south to join Third Division (North) South Shields and made his Football League debut at Darlington that August. His 6 seasons were split evenly between the old South Shields incarnation and the new Gateshead club which succeeded South Shields in 1931. Kennedy scored double figures goals in every season, including 17 goals when Gateshead finished as runners up in the division in 1931-32. After 84 goals in 216 appearances he returned to Scotland in 1934 to join Third Lanark, where he finished his career.
