Hawarden, Flintshire born inside forward Jack Jones began his football career with Whitchurch, from where he joined Third Division (North) club Wrexham in the summer of 1922, making his Football League debut at Grimsby Town that August. His 11 goals that season helped Wrexham to mid table respectability but the goals dried up the next season and after 13 goals in 59 games he joined Crewe Alexandra in 1924. At Crewe he struggled to get a regular place in the first eleven making only 6 appearances each season during his two seasons at Gresty Road, scoring 3 times, before joining non league Sandbach Ramblers in 1926.
