Description
Motherwell, Lanarkshire born goalkeeper Bob Johnstone had signed for Patrick Thistle from Blantyre Celtic in the summer of 1933 and soon got his opportunity in the Thistle goal when long term incumbent John Jackson moved to Chelsea, an opportunity he seized, soon establishing himself as the regular goalkeeper becoming “a great favourite” at Firhill throughout the rest of the 1930’s. It was commented of him at the time: “There is nothing ‘flashy’ about Bob… Johnstone is particularly expert in fielding low balls, but in spite of his lack of inches he is also usually safe enough with the high ones”.
