Description
West Bromwich born centre forward Abe Jones joined Second Division Birmingham from West Bromwich Sandwell in 1919, scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Fulham on his Football League debut in April 1920. However he couldn’t get back in the team thereafter, and after only 3 games Birmingham released him. He joined Reading in the summer of 1921. He had a single season at Elm Park scoring 5 goals in 24 appearances and in 1922 he moved to Brighton & Hove Albion. He only played 6 games, scoring once, for Brighton that autumn, and moved the following summer to Merthyr Town. He scored on his Merthyr debut against Southend and scored 7 times in 20 appearances in total for the Welsh club, but was released and didn’t pursue a further professional football career.
