Fazakerley, Liverpool born right back George Jackson began his senior football career with Southern League club Pontypridd in 1920 before a move to nearby Third Division (South) club Merthyr Town in the summer of 1921, for whom he made his Football League debut at Luton Town that October. He had two seasons at Penydarren Park making 56 appearances for Merthyr before joining Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 1923.

Initially a regular for his first two seasons at Prenton Park, he lost his place in 1925 and spent four seasons on the fringes of the first team, regaining his place in October 1929, and making 26 appearances during the campaign against 17 during the previous four seasons combined. He left Tranmere Rovers for non league South Liverpool in the summer of 1930 after 114 appearances for the club.
