Manchester born left back Bertram Jackson started his professional career with Southern League Luton Town in 1906, and joined his hometown club, Manchester City in 1907, making his Football League debut on Boxing Day the same year against Bolton Wanderers, becoming a regular in their defence thereafter. Although City were relegated in 1909, Jackson played 35 League games as they won the 1909-10 Second Division Championship. However, back in the First Division he lost his place in their first team and joined non league Stalybridge Celtic in the 1911 close season retiring from playing with the onset of the First World War.
