Newcastle born centre half Wilf Innerd played junior football for Wallsend Park Villa in 1899 before joining First Division Newcastle United in May 1900, making his Football League debut at Liverpool in March 1901. playing 4 weeks later against Bury at St James’ Park. He then had to wait 4 years for his next (and final) appearance for The Magpies’ first eleven, playing in April 1905 in a defeat at Blackburn Rovers. He joined Southern League Crystal Palace in the summer of 1905, where he became club captain and where he was described as “one of the most efficient half backs in the Southern League”, scoring 7 goals in 133 appearances over the next 4 years before returning to the north east to join non league Shildon Athletic in 1909.
