Little is known of the career of centre half William Hyslop other than of his spell with Scottish Second Division club Dumbarton, who he joined at the end of April 1922 as they were being relegated from the First Division. Hyslop made his debut in a 3-0 win over Vale of Leven mid September, and was a regular during his first season with The Sons, missing only 4 matches, scoring 5 of his 8 goals for Dumbarton as they finished seventh in the division in 1923-24. He was less regular in his final season at Boghead Park, playing less than half of Dumbarton’s matches, the final match of 72 appearances for The Sons coming in a home defeat to Clyde in April 1925.
