Description

Hetton-le-Hole, County Durham born right back Tommy Hodgson began his football career playing for Hetton Colliery before signing for Second Division club West Ham United in 1921, making his Football League debut at Blackpool in May 1922. He made 11 appearances during their promotion season of 1922-23 when they finished Second Division runners up, illness and injury prevented him more significantly from regular participation in the first team and he wasn’t selected for the 1923 FA Cup Final. indeed he remained on the fringes for another five seasons until breaking through from the start of the 1928-29 campaign after their relegation to the Second Division, when he played 33 matches.

However he returned to the fringes in 1929-30 and left West Ham after 92 appearances to join Third Division (South) club Luton Town in the 1930 close season, where he was the club captain. He had two seasons of regular football at Kenilworth Road but lost his place in September 1932, and joined non league Luton Postal in the summer of 1933 after 74 appearances. He later returned to Luton Town as a director, subsequently becoming Managing Director, Chairman and eventually President of the club, leading them out at Wembley for their 1959 FA Cup Final clash with Nottingham Forest.
