A full back, Dennis Higgins played 30 times for Southern League club Queen’s Park Rangers in the seasons immediately prior to the outbreak of the First World War, the onset of which forced the suspension of peacetime football in May 1915, and he later joined The Sportsman’s Battalion of The Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Higgins eventually became an officer, but was so badly injured at the Battle of Ypres in Flanders, so seriously that he never played again. Full biography to follow.
