Sheffield born centre half Harold Hargreaves started his football career with non league Worksop Town in 1925 and joined Second Division Blackpool the following year, making his Football League debut at Port Vale in April 1927, playing twice for The Seasiders before the end of the season. However he was not retained and joined non league Stalybridge Celtic in the summer of 1927. He had a spell at Lincoln City during the first part of the 1928-29 season without making their first eleven before returning to non league Wath Athletic later in 1928, and later the same season had a spell at Rotherham United, again without making their first eleven. He joined Merthyr Town in the summer of 1929 and made 26 appearances, scoring once, during what proved to be their final Football League season, at the end of which they were not re-elected. He then joined Mansfield Town in the summer of 1930, and finished his career by re-joining Worksop Town in 1931.
