Salford born wing half Tom Hampson played for Droylesden from 1934 before joining First Division Leeds United, for whom he made his Football League debut at Chelsea on 27th December 1938 in a match drawn 2-2. He played the following February at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds losing 4-1, but didn’t play again for them and was transferred to Oldham Athletic in the 1939 close season. However before he got the chance to kick a ball for The Latics the advent of the Second World War effectively ended his football career.
