South Bank, Middlesbrough born full back Albert Groves played junior football for South Bank in 1902 before joining Second Division Lincoln City in 1903, making his Football League debut against Grimsby Town that September, scoring twice in 30 appearances before First Division Sheffield United stepped in to sign him in April 1904. He had 3 seasons at Bramall Lane but fell out of favour in 1906 and joined hometown club Middlesbrough in the summer of 1907 after 65 appearances for The Blades. He was never a regular at Ayresome Park, scoring twice in 27 appearances before joining non league Wingate Albion in 1912 before retirement.
