Description

Aston Manor, Birmingham born winger Howard Gregory started his football career in 1909 with Aston Manor in 1908, joining Birchfield Trinity in April 1910 before signing for First Division West Bromwich Albion in May 1911, making his Football League debut at Everton in April 1912. He had scored 12 goals in 31 appearances by the time peacetime football was suspended due to onset of the First World War, and after the War he was a key member of the Albion team that won the League Championship in 1920, scoring 12 goals in 34 matches during the 1919-20 campaign. He made his last of a total of 176 appearances for The Baggies in March 1925, by when he had scored 42 goals, before retiring at the end of the season through injury.

NB he was the older brother of Clarence Gregory, who played League football for Sunderland and Queen’s Park Rangers, and Jack Gregory of .Queen’s Park Rangers.
