Preston born full back Billy Greatorex joined his home town professional club, then in the First Division, from local football after World War One, making his Football League debut at local rivals Burnley in December 1919. After 20 appearances for North End in the second half of the season he lost his place in 1920-21, playing only 7 more games, the last on New Year’s Day also against Burnley. At the end of the season he joined Southport for their first season in The Football League although he didn’t play in their inaugural fixture. He made 64 appearances at Haig Avenue over the next 2 seasons before joining Chesterfield in the summer of 1923. His spell at Chesterfield encompassed 13 matches between December 1923 and February 1924, before he joined non league Morecambe later that year.
