Partick born centre half Paddy Gray began his football career with Yoker Athletic in 1894 before joining Partick Thistle a year later. In May 1897 he joined Liverpool but failed to make their first eleven, and exactly a year later joined Second Division Grimsby Town, making his Football League debut at Manchester City in September 1898. He was a key member of Grimsby’s team that won the Second Division Championship in 1900-01, but when Grimsby were relegated in 1903 he joined Southern League Fulham after 6 goals in 132 appearances. After a 2 year spell at Fulham and a year at Leyton, he returned to Football League action with Burton United in 1906, scoring 3 goals in 25 appearances in what proved their final League season. He joined Parkgate & Rawmarsh United in 1907 before returning to Leyton in 1909 where he played out his career until retirement.
