Description
Ecclesfield (near Sheffield) born right back George Gray had joined Grimsby Town in 1919 from local football but failed to make an appearance for The Mariners’ first eleven, moving to Norwich City in 1920, where he made his Football League debut at Plymouth Argyle in August 1920 in Norwich City’s inaugural League fixture. Indeed Gray was an ever present in their inaugural Football League season in the Third Division (South).
His talent was spotted by hometown club Sheffield Wednesday, who signed him in December 1922 after 51 appearances for The Canaries. Having established himself in the Wednesday team he played the first 15 games of the 1922-23 season before suffering a career ending injury in November 1922 at Hull City after 33 games for The Wednesday.
