Bristol born goalkeeper Robert Goddard joined Second Division Bristol City in 1921 from Charles Hill, and made his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue in April 1922. With Frank Vallis the established goalkeeper at Ashton Gate, Goddard found it hard to get a consistent run in the first eleven, and in total he made 21 League appearances in his three seasons at Bristol City, before joining Reading in 1924. However, he never made a first team appearance for The Royals, and finished his professional football career when he left them.
