Description

Barnsley, Yorkshire born left half Arthur Glover played junior football for Regent Street Congregationals before joining hometown Second Division club Barnsley in March 1935, making his Football League debut at Stockport County in January 1938, playing twice in the season that saw Barnsley relegated from the Second Division. The following season he again played twice as Barnsley won the Third Division (North) Championship at the first time of asking, but the intervention of the Second World War, which forced the abandonment of peacetime football on its outbreak in September 1939, meant he had to wait seven years before his next senior appearance for The Tykes in 1946.

Returning to Oakwell after the War Glover had five seasons of regular football and missed only two matches in their 1947-48 campaign but lost his regular place in the side in April 1951. He continued to play for Barnsley until August 1952 making his final appearance in a home defeat to Nottingham Forest that month, scoring 5 goals in 193 appearances before his retirement, already aged 34.
