Redditch born full back Ernest Glenn played non league football for Willenhall in 1922 and from there joined Second Division Bristol City in the summer of 1923, making his Football League debut against Blackpool the same November and soon establishing himself as their first choice left back. Although they were relegated in his debut season, Glenn played 40 times during their 1926-27 campaign which saw The Robins crowned Division Three (South) Champions, and in total he made 288 appearances, without ever scoring, over 8 seasons before retiring from the professional game in 1931.
