King’s Norton, Birmingham born centre forward Ernie Francis spent 1904-05 on the books at Aston Villa without making a first team appearance and joined Second Division Blackpool in the summer of 1905, making his Football League debut at Bradford City at the end of October. In 2 seasons at Bloomfield Road he scored a dozen goals in 44 appearances before joining Worcester City in 1907. A season at Walsall followed in 1908, before he re-joined Worcester in 1909. In 1913 he returned to the Football League with Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring on his debut at Clapton Orient that October and making 10 appearances through to February, scoring 3 goals. He then returned to non league football later in 1914 with Bournville Athletic before once again re-joining Worcester City after the First World War in 1919.
