Leeds born inside forward Richard Fountain began his senior career with Midland League club Scarborough and from there moved to First Division Notts County in the 1905 close season. He made his Football League debut and sole appearance for Notts County in their first game of the 1905-06 season, away to Stoke in a 3-0 defeat to The Potters in September 1905. In 1906 he joined Lancashire Combination club Accrington Stanley so ending the briefest of senior football careers.
