Barnsley born inside forward Eddie Fleetwood started his football career with Mexborough Athletic in 1929 and spent 1930-31 with Blackburn Rovers, in this photograph he was a non playing reserve for the first team, but never made a first eleven appearance before returning to Mexborough Athletic in 1931. He joined hometown Third Division (North) club Barnsley in the summer of 1932 and made his Football League debut at Gateshead that September, scoring in a 1-1 draw, but despite a good goals to games ratio at Barnsley, scoring 4 in 5 games in their 1933-34 Third Division (North) Championship season, his opportunities were limited to 14 games in total, in which he scored 8 goals, making his final Barnsley appearance in a 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United in November 1934, his only Second Division outing. He then joined non league Denaby United in 1935 and subsequently Scunthorpe & Lindsey United in 1936.
