Trentham born winger Ross Fielding began his football career with Stoke Priory in 1900 before joining local professional club Stoke in 1901, making his Football League debut for them in the First Division at Sunderland in March 1902. After only two appearances he transferred to Nottingham Forest where he played a single season before rejoining Stoke after 10 first team appearances for Forest. He started to establish himself as a regular first teamer from January 1905 and scored his first Stoke goal in February 1905 in a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, but when Stoke lapsed into financial difficulties in 1908 he left to join Second Division West Bromwich Albion after 12 goals in an additional 107 appearances. However he played only 9 times for The Baggies in 1908-09 and finished his career with non league Burton United who he joined in 1910.
