Liverpool born winger Alex Elliott had been with Northwich Victoria after the First World War and joined soon to be Football League club Wigan Borough in 1920, then playing in the Lancashire Combination. He then joined new League entrant Southend United in the summer of 1921 making his League debut at Brighton that August in Southend’s inaugural Football League fixture. He kept his place for 8 games that autumn, the only games he would play for The Shrimpers, thereafter (at some point) returning to the north west where he joined Crewe Alexandra, playing 10 games and scoring twice for Alex between October 1923 and January 1924.
