Left half Alex Elliot signed for Partick Thistle from Perthshire Juniors in 1927 and to this day is still the 8th highest all time Partick Thistle appearance record holder, with 454 games between 1927 and 1940. Team mate Eddie McLeod ranks above him having played 495 games starting a year earlier. At the time it was said of him “Plays a speedy type of game and excels in ball control and clever passing”. In September 1938 he was selected to represent The Scottish League in a 6-1 thrashing of The Irish League at Ibrox, but the outbreak of the Second World War effectively put an end to his football career.
