Burnbank, Lanarkshire born left half Barney Duffy began his football career with Blantyre Caledonians and played for  Burnbank in 1921 and Bellshill Athletic in 1922 from where he was signed by First Division club Chelsea in 1923, making his Football League debut at West Ham United that October, his only appearance in a season that ended in relegation for The Pensioners. He remained on the fringes at Stamford Bridge for a further two seasons and made one first team appearance each season before joining Second Division club Clapton Orient in March 1927.

At Orient he was a first team regular for two seasons and scored his only career goal in English football in a 3-0 win over Reading at Millfields Road in September 1927, but after the end of the 1928-29 season he didn’t play again for The O’s, and in 1930 he moved to Irish League football with Ards. He moved to Shelbourne in 1931 and then to Dundalk in 1932, his last known club, and his career thereafter is uncertain.
